Circular Design for Urban Transformation

The CiD Conference Hannover from 28 to 30 May 2026 is a three-day event featuring a program of research presentations, discussions, and guest lectures, organized by Territorial Design and Urban Planning at Leibniz University Hannover.

The conference will be opened by Jörg Schröder, Dean for Research of the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape of Leibniz University Hannover; Board member of EAAE, the European association of Architecture Schools; and coordinator of the CiD Alliance.

The welcome address is by Eugen Panescu, Board member of ACE Architects’ Council of Europe, the European association of Chambers of Architects.

International Keynotes are from Clara Kernreuter (Atelier Luma, France), Marcis Rubenis (Free Riga, Latvia), Maurizio Carta (Palermo, Italy), Christof Mayer (raumlaborberlin, Germany), and Selma Harrington (Architects’ Council of Europe, Belgium).

Circular design offers approaches to strengthen urban resilience. It involves a new orientation of design and construction to rethink, repurpose, and redesign urban structures, building stocks, strategies, and planning processes through circularity and the circular economy.

The conference “Circular Design for Urban Transformation” is organized by the EU project CiD Circular Design Innovation Alliance. We will present and discuss the results of the EU project, which involves 11 partners, along with 18 additional contributions from research and practice selected through an open call, as well as an installation showcasing the work of the EU project.
