Against the backdrop of accelerating environmental change, this research focus is dedicated to the planning and management of regenerative and resilient ecosystems. It aims to protect and restore biological diversity, maintain the functions of communities within their habitats, and enhance the benefits that nature provides to people. We examine ecological and socio-ecological dynamics, focusing on cross-scale interactions between ecosystems and land uses, relevant actors and institutions.
We analyse how climate change, land-use change and governance shape the resilience of ecosystems and biodiversity trends. By combining ecological and social science research with socio-ecological analyses, we enable evidence-based spatial and landscape planning. This results in concepts, methods and planning tools for the conservation, restoration and sustainable development of landscapes for nature and people.
