Research at the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Sciences

Faculty research focus:

FUTURE HABITATS

Shaping the human living space and environment

The new research focus FUTURE HABITATS enhances the research strengths of the Faculty towards an internationally leading research profile, in a broad and interdisciplinary setup. Shaping human living space and environment as active, integrative and place-based task is crucially needed to effectively implement core objectives of several important policy and research agendas: the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the UN Habitat III Process, the Faro Convention of the Council of Europe, the EU Horizon 2020 Research Programme "Europe in a changing world: inclusive, innovative, and reflective societies", and several connected national and regional agendas, as e.g. the Transformation Agenda and the National Urban Development Policy of BMBU.

FUTURE HABITATS are conceived as focus of scientific and design research in the Faculty, boosting existing research excellence in the fields of Architecture, Urbanism, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Planning, Technical Education. The Leitmotiv SHAPING HUMAN LIVING SPACE AND ENVIRONMENT aims at an innovative integration of spatial design, spatial strategies and planning processes in multi-actor models. This unique focus is directed towards enhanced interdisciplinary cooperation, in the Leibniz Universität Hannover as well as internationally, based on substantial existing alliances and on the new perspective of the integrative profile FUTURE HABITATS. The research focus extends and enhances existing cooperation in the faculty, by inventing and coordinating 4 new research lines with FUTURE HABITATS:

  • Reflexive Design in Architecture and Landscape
  • Urban and Rural Futures
  • Integrated Technologies in Building and Nature
  • Valorisation of Cultural Heritage in Architecture and Landscape

The Research Profile of the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Sciences at the Leibniz University Hannover is essentially characterized by the high-quality reserach with sustainable and design-related approach to reserach questions (Fundamental and Creative Research). The research orientation is included in the structural development plan of the faculty.

The research in characterized by the interdisciplinary research praxis and the focus on the 'build environment'. The Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Sciences offers diverse opportunities to conduct research within scientific and technological spectrum.
