At the "Real Estate Arena" trade fair in May 2023, the professional associations and other institutions of architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and urban design will have a joint stand, as they did in 2022. The design and implementation of the stand will be carried out as a design-build project by students from Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts and Leibniz Universität Hannover under the direction of the chairs of Prof. Mirco Becker and Prof. Tatjana Sabljo.
With the exhibition stand, the Department of Digital Methods is continuing the thematic focus on small reusable components and is exploring the question:
What do we need to rethink in the smallest of things in order to find answers to the major challenges of construction and thus shape a sustainable future?
The wooden grid block H-Block developed by dMA was chosen for the design of the "resource.architektur" exhibition stand. An H-Block is the size of a milk carton and is made of beech wood profiles. Several H-Blocks can be inserted into each other in such a way that they brace each other. For a medium-sized building you would need several 10,000 H-Blocks, the exhibition stand is realised with 2200 blocks.
To demonstrate the versatile applications of building with the H-Blocks, different functions and spatial situations were designed. In addition, two concrete stairs, which were actually declared as construction waste, are integrated in the stand. They are reused here and serve as a context to show that the H-Blocks can be used flexibly in existing situations. After the fair, the H-Blocks can be used elsewhere and find a new form of application as interior design or furniture. The next stop will be fixtures for the interim use of the Galeria Kaufhof building at the Marktkirche in Hanover.
"resource.architektur" was officially opened on 24 May by Mayor Belit Onay, CEO of Deutsche Messe Jochen Köckler, Minister of Economics Olaf Lies and President of the Chamber of Architects Robert Marlow.
