EU Blended Intensive Programme - Klein- und Mittelstädte im Fokus

City centre development, energy transition and climate adaptation in small and medium-sized towns.

An "EU Blended Intensive Programme" (BIP) is also taking place this winter semester in cooperation between Leibniz University Hannover (LUH), Stockholm University (SU), the University of Tours (UT) and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU).

As part of the Master's project "Planning for energy transition and climate adaptation", students visited Verden an der Aller in November. Ten international students from the English-language Master's programme "Environmental Planning and Territorial Development" dedicated their project to this small and medium-sized town in Lower Saxony. During the visit, they toured the historic city museum and talked to the team from the city planning office and the climate protection manager about integrated urban development, resilient city centre development, current construction projects and the city's cargo bike sharing system. The students were able to gain exciting insights into the work and strategies of the city of Verden.

In March 2024, an excursion to Herzogenburg (Austria) will then take place as part of the BIP. Students from the four universities will come together there to spend a week intensively exploring the Lower Austrian town of Herzogenburg.
